Backstory/History:

Her Tribe :: The Gongzhu Tribe ::
Her people originally lived in the mountains and along the coast near the Northern Air Temple. They mingled freely and often with the Northern Water Tribe and the Air Nomads for centuries until the 100 Year War. They have a reverence for the spirits and honor their ancestors, as well as being skilled in seafaring.
When the Hundred Year War began, they were nearly wiped out due to the people occasionally being born as Waterbenders. Since the war, they have struggled with poverty and many of her people joined the Northern Air Temple to become acolytes.

Her Past
When she was 10 years old her her parents decided to leave their people's homeland in search of a better life for their children. They found themselves in Republic City but it wasn't the dream that they had hoped for. They were poor and her parents held multiple jobs to scrape by in a two room apartment.
When she was 15 her older brother, Kanak, decided to become a monk at the Air Temple. His absence alleviated some of the financial stress that they were going through since there was one less mouth to feed. But later that same year, her father, who was a dock worker, died in an accident, leaving her mother to support herself and her daughter on her own.

Even through the challenges that they faced, they were a happy family that knew joy and love.

Her Present

Mukta lives with her mother and works as a referee for the minor league of Probending. Their life has greatly improved since Mukta began working there and it's her dream to own and coach her very own team of Probenders named the Wild Boars, in honor of her tribe. She loves bending and everything that deals with it.

Alternate Backstory/History:

She grew up with her mother and her sister in Republic City. Toph owned an Earthbending school in the city and that's where Lin and her sister spent a lot of their time growing up, aside from days spent on Air Temple Island.

As she grew into a rebellious teenager, Lin befriended a boy named Zolt who later grew up to be known as the infamous Lightning Bolt Zolt. Together they did petty crimes for quick cash and got in and out of trouble but never did anything too serious. It was around this time that she began to date Tenzin.

Never one for any serious or violent criminal activity, she left her friendship with Zolt behind and became a police officer. She loved being a cop and loved helping people. But she saw a lot of police corruption and learned that being an officer of the law was just like being a thug, something that she felt was even worse than being in a real gang.

She vowed to protect citizens and correct any officer that she saw as being out of line.

She worked extremely hard to stomp out corruption where ever she saw it. As she became the Chief of Police, instances of police brutality, bribes and other illegal activity among members of her police force were at an all time low.

But she couldn't have everything, after nearly 20 years of dating, she and Tenzin broke up. Even though she was very upset about Tenzin leaving she knew that she couldn't hold onto him. What made the break up worse for her was knowing that Pema was so much younger than her, she knew it wasn't Tenzin being a pig, but it was a blow to her ego.

Fast forward to the present, she is content with her life and has even befriended Pema, much to Tenzin's discomfort. She still loves her job as the Chief of Police and has no plans to retire.

She feels accomplished knowing that she took a lawless and corrupt city and helped shape it into a place that Aang would have been proud of.

General Appearance: She's lean and wears long robes most of the time. Her face is long and her eyes are large and expressive, she has full eyebrows. Her nose is long and wide and her lips are full. She does not have Air Nomad tattoos.

Backstory/History:

She was born in the Eastern Air Temple and has spent most of her life there, only venturing to leave the temple when the nuns go on trips to the other Air Temples for festivals and mixers.

She enjoys studying the history and teachings of her people and she spends a lot of her time meditating but isn't a talented Air Bender for anything other than practical purposes such as making pies and flying on a glider. The more majestic the Air Bending form, the less likely it is that she's able to perform it.

Thus, she has been unable to earn her tattoos. She's very ashamed of that fact as most Air Nomad people get their tattoos in their mid-teens but she still very much enjoys life at the temple most of the time.
